Playing the Victim

A familiar picture of male brutality is unveiled to reveal a celebration of one woman’s pleasure. Switch interrogate British law in this intense, visceral piece of experimental theatre.

What does it mean when something disgusts or terrifies us?

Playing the Victim is a nightmarish, inexplicably beautiful performance about pain and consent. It depicts forbidden acts, challenging preconceptions and questioning laws drafted in knee-jerk response to media sensationalism.

Switch remind us that the experience of pain is decisively shaped by individual human minds and by specific human cultures. The history of pain they recount is one of secrecy and silence … they engage in the process of publicly representing our pleasurable encounters with pain.

Monica Maseda, Art Tryst
