About Fakir & Cléo

Fakir Musafar is the father of the Modern Primitives movement. He is famous worldwide for his sixty years of research and personal exploration of primitive body decoration and rituals. Fakir has introduced concepts and practices for the "body-first" approach to exploring spirituality in art, body modification, SM and what he calls "body play".
   
Cléo Dubois in "The Pain Game" Cléo Dubois is a renowned BDSM educator, film maker and personal trainer in the kinky arts. Since 1995 her Academy of SM Arts has offered Erotic Dominance workshops and BDSM coaching for individuals and couples. She is producer of The Pain Game, a ground-breaking video that illustrates the humanity of sadomasochism.

Fakir & Cléo were last seen here at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in 1995, where they took part in the Rapture series. This remarkable series of events and performances brought together different artists creating body-based work, including Ron Athey, Franko B and Orlan. Fakir also appeared alongside these artists in a South Bank Show special on Body Art in 1998.

 

For this visit to the UK, Fakir & Cléo were joined by Elwood and traci joy burleigh.

Elwood Elwood is a trained and certified body piercer, suspension artist and photographer.  He was trained by Fakir and works as a piercer in British Columbia, Canada. Elwood is known for his extensive knowledge of the history of body modification, his deep understanding of practical safety and his humorous personality. Elwood has presented numerous workshops around the US and Canada.
   
Traci Joy Burleigh
traci joy burleigh is an educator, artist and activist in the fields of sexuality and embodied spirituality. She completed Fakir's Piercing Intensive in 2005, and has participated in a number of private and public rituals. She lives in san francisco where she runs her own business, arts of flesh.
